We are all Zombies

April 30, 2006

Globalization has affected every part of the world more than we know it.  There are TV. shows that are recognized in a variety of countries, cultures and societies have become intertwined with each other.

Because the tech business is booming and will continue that way, you have to wonder how far will it reach?  Will other cultures and countries become technologically dependent, like we have?  Pornography is one of the many things that you can find everywhere.  Now you can see U.S. porn in different places like Russia, France, etc.  What happens to the local culture? What happens to each national culture?  In regards to pornography, are we just going to have to watch the same porn because everyone is viewing, watching and doing the same thing?  What happened to the variety of the world.  I am not saying that the whole world is falling under this powerful force of globalization, I am saying won’t we get bored with everything?  You can find a McDonald’s in Egypt, and in India they have their Hollywood which is known as Bollywood.  What happened to everyone’s specific and beautiful culture?

I have a pEEping Tom!

April 30, 2006

Privacy as we know it has been on the border line since the popularity of technology.  As we heard in lecture there were some lavish, upscale parties being thrown and journalist used to infiltrate information by attending these parties.  They had very slick ways to get information and later to report what happened whether it was a known figure that was gay or was “sleeping with the maid.”

My question is when will we have ultimate privacy with this new technology?  The Internet has so much information that you would not know if someone posted video of you having sex in your house or if some pervert was taking pictures of you.  Cameras can be disguised in any way.  How will we ever know if there is someone secretly stalking you and posting personal information about you on the Internet?  How will we KNOW?! An even better question to ask is as we are using these computers there is a file for everything that we do that anyone can easily hack into, even the government.  After the Patriot Act, the government can now get into your business whenever they want if you point out key words linking to terrorism.  Where is our privacy? What’s up with that? Any thoughts? The big question regarding that is, do we violate our right to privacvy for national securtiy?

Lucas,[Pause] Mr. Lucas

April 24, 2006

Mr. Lucas seems to be a dominant voice in the gay porn industry.  After doing research on Mr. Lucas one can gather that he is well known, well written and well spoken.  He is against drug use and is pro safe sex.  I think what he is doing is important for the gay market as well as the porn industry.  Mr. Lucas is giving the gay porn world a voice for all to hear.  He is addressing the issues and standing by his viewpoints.

It is important to realize that the porn industry has its own stereotypes and negative feedback from some of the conservative public as well as being gay.  Mr. Lucas demonstrates that you can be gay, a porn star, a producer and director and still promote a positive message whether people agree or disagree.  I believe it is also important to note that this isn’t just the outspoken, average Joe of the porn world but this is an educated person who has obtained a law degree and has created a gay porn empire.  This speaks volumes for the gay community.

In search of a blog

April 23, 2006

During this era we can find anything on the Internet. Anything from drinking games to blogs about sexcapades. A good portion of this class we have talked non stop about porn so I decided to look for a blog with a common factor of porn, sex. I found a ton of sex blogs that had topics like masturbation, fetishes, BDSM, etc. I chose the blog about a woman and her sexual life. The description given is: “A suburban housewife/urban warrior with a kinky side reveals her frustations, adventures and fantasies…” I chose this because it had such a fun tone to it, I couldn’t resist. I must warn you though, most of the material is rather explicit and you should not read it if it will offend you.

The blog:

A woman, Tess, wrote her latest entry about her latest craving. She begins to tell her story of how her day went and occurred. Tess attended a reading called In the Flesh which is a monthly reading where some writers share stories to entice you in the mayhem and world of sex. Ultimately her craving for pork dumplings and purposeful sex did not happen the way she wanted. She go the pork dumplings but as for the sex she so desired, it did not work the way she wanted.

How is this relevant?

I think this is interesting because there is more to the sex industry than porn. As we have learned from previous blogs about the Talk Sex with Sue Johanson. I think this will get you thinking more about what is actually out in cyberspace. I recommend this blog if you want to explore a different side of sex and erotica.

Boob vs. F-word

April 10, 2006

Indecency has made a serious impact on today’s society because many television shows and radio shows and/or programs have been brought to court on indecency charges. The big uproar is for the court to decide exactly what indecency is.

It was on the night of Super bowl 38 where the fans were gathered watching the overly priced commercials and engaging in the biggest sporting ever.  People, adults, were drinking beer and having a good time as the halftime show came on.  There were some headline performers such as Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake.  As we were all watching with great enthusiasm we see Janet Jackson’s nipple! Boy, I guess this offended people more than anyone thought.

Do children who have not seen a nipple really watch the Super bowl? I don’t think so. Let’s look at the demographics.

New Years Eve, the world renowned band, Motley Crue decided to perform on the Tonight Show.  After their performance, lead singer, Vince Neil decided to use the F-word.  This was after the ball dropped.   I thought there is an allotted time for some inappropriate behavior, between 10p.m. and 5:59 a.m. or is that only for obscene material?

What is really going on? When did Americans get so soft on these different issues? The parents should not let their children watch certain programs at certain time. So what if someone’s boob showed up for a mere second, will that child be harmed for life, I think not.

Do We Really Live in a Free Society?

April 9, 2006

The First Amendment has to be one of the most controversial topics that we see so why isn’t it clearly defined? Americans seem so soft in their reasoning behind regulating free speech.  We have seen many cases that has changed or regulated our current free speech, when will it end?  This “free” country is supposed to be a place where people can express their mind but they can’t to their fullest potential because of things like libel and obscenity.

The First Amendment should protect all speech rights and all its counterparts.  When Dr. Halavais made the point of Pee Wee Herman engaging in already made child porn, why shouldn’t the 1st Amendment protect him?  To me, Dr. Halavais, was not wrong or weird.  He was right; why not protect the people with the freedom of speech?  What we, as a society should worry about is how child porn is being made?  Where is the epicenter of the problem?  We should worry about child molesters, child abusers and how people exploit children.  Child porn should not be made in the first place.  The people who see children as “sexy,” need help in their own way.  Why not arrest people who have violent pornography on their computer?  Isn’t that some type of violence towards women?  Aren’t they watching a crime?  Are we really living in the Big Brother society and have just enough freedom covering it up to say that we don’t?

Obscenity is another ambiguous topic of the constitution.  Obscenity defined in court terms is a whole list of garbage that can be misconstrued and misused.  What about Hug gee’s commercials or Johnson & Johnson commercials? They show naked children.  According to the standards, why can’t these commercials be seen as obscene?  Is it because they are not exploiting a child in a sexual manner? No, because the law says:

·  Whether the average person, applying contemporary community standards, would find that the work, taken as a whole, appeals to the prurient interest.

·  Whether the work depicts or describes, in a patently offensive way, sexual conduct specifically defined by the applicable state law.

·  Whether the work, taken as a whole, lacks serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value.

Where is the scientific value? Where is the literary, political, or artistic value? What if I find those commercials patently offensive?    Why aren’t these companies being prosecuted if we want to go by the court’s definition of obscenity?  My point exactly which is what is obscene to one is not obscene to another.  There cannot be a limit on something that is objective.  The law should be prosecuting the people who make the films, people who are doing direct harm to the child and/or person.

Myth 3 & 4 PRO!!!

April 2, 2006

Men like variety in women so porn use helps a man stay faithful to his woman. & Porn is an outlet or safety valve for men who might otherwise do Bad Things.

Relationships can very tricky and extremely confusing and sometimes people can be burnt out from it all.  Problems such as sex and money tend to be the big headaches of them all.  After being stressed and having the feeling of not wanting to be with your significant other you try to find an outlet to let out those frustrations.  Some people choose to cheat on their spouse.

Porn is the chosen outlet, though.  Porn can be a safety net for those who feel like they need to see and/or do someone else.  Porn has a variety of genres whether it be S&M or Gay porn.  Men can be satisfied and have their fantasies fulfilled no matter what it is.  So, instead of cheating on their girlfriend, they can turn to any porn to bring them into another place where they can be satisfied and not stressed out.  I rather have my significant other watch porn two or three times a day than to cheat on me.  It can protect them and satisfy their craving for something new, especially with the interactive porn online.

In essence, pornography is beneficial to all relationship.  Not only can it keep your lover monogamous but it will keep him/her happy.

Interaction activity

April 2, 2006

Internet porn is different compared to the old generation of pornography. It has become interactive in the sense that you know what will happen. If you click a hyperlink that says XXX you know you are about to watch something that is sexually explicit.

Also, another example of interaction would be if you are viewing porn on the Internet, the purpose would be to get aroused and/or masturbate and you do take part in one of those actions. We can say that cyberporn is more interactive than it was in the earlier days.

What’s the difference between magazine and VHS/DVD porn versus Internet porn. I see at as all forms of porn are interactive. You purchase, download it or stream it for your personal reasons. Once you watch it, you have interacted with the how you want to see it, where you want to see it and what parts of the porn you want to see. Rafaeli said that when you interact with something there is a non automated response. So, can’t we say that viewing all porn is a non automated response because we purchase it view it and use it some way.

I would say live porn and webcam porn is more interactive. There you can interact with the actor. You can type to them or even talk to them. You can tell the what you want to see or how you want them to be. That’s instant contact with the actor which is interaction. There is a purpose, an action and an outcome.

Bloody Hell! – Sasha

March 26, 2006

Wow! Let me say that again, WOW! If you do not know why I am
surprised please keep reading this post.

 Sasha

The question and definition of obscenity has come to play on
this blog more than once.  If we were to outlaw violent,
sexualized videos these images would probably be considered obscene. Some of
these images are really graphic. Before we can rule anything obscene we need a
concrete definition to help us with the parameters to determine what is obscene
and what isn’t.

Also, after viewing these photos it made me wonder
what kind
of audience is viewing this type of material. Who gets off on seeing a
woman
with blood all over her?  Could it be just the average Joe who
has  a
thing for blood? Or is it some sadistic person who hates the presence
and mere
being of a woman because of some past childhood experiences? Maybe it's
some
kind of BTK serial killer types? Are the people viewing this type of
material, rapists? We know the word rape and associate it with sexual
assault but we have to look at the origin of the word to determine what rape is.

Are
these people Sadist and masochist? Do they like the domination and submission??
What is wrong with these people? Is there any justification for their behavior?
Any comments?

Common Ground??

March 25, 2006

Child pornography is a serious issue that has plagued our society.  The technology era has brought easy access as well as some sort of anonymity to the perpetrators.   Recently one of the biggest child porn rings was shut down.  It was a chat room that streamed video of child molestation along with other child porn.  The youngest victim was less than a year old!

First, this is probably the vilest thing I have heard.  To exploit these children with no regard and no morals is the worst part of child porn.  These children will endure much pain and might commit the same act in the future.

I think the best supporting theory about people who view and produce child porn is that a sex crime occurred in their life.

The internet has made it possible for people to freely distribute porn at one time or another.  How will we regulate that? Are we willing to give up part of our first amendment rights so the government can regulate certain websites?  This is a toss up for me since I am a firm believer in my first amendment right but at the same time, the most heinous crime that can be committed is sexual acts against children.  Where is our common ground?
